Using theatre games, improvisation, and text studies, students will explore the building blocks for creating believable characters. Students will develop their skills as actors, exploring scene study, classical Shakespearean texts, audition techniques, and character creation through song and dance. 
*Students may enroll in Acting & Performance for Honors credit to continue their studies after successfully completing Acting & Performance. To receive honors credit, the student must audition for, and if selected participate in, the Fall Play or Spring Musical, in addition to heightened classroom expectations and advanced assignments, such as dialects.

Public Speaking & More 
Hate talking in front of people? Get nervous during job or college interviews? Want to learn tips to become more comfortable in front of others? Using theatre games, writing assignments, videos, and slides, students will learn how clearly organize speeches and presentations, deliver them confidently, and feel comfortable in professional interview settings for jobs or colleges. By the end of the semester, students should be able to use rehearsal techniques to develop a strong, vibrant speaking voice for public speaking and presentations.

The Art of Movies 
Watch tons of great movies while learning about the different production aspects of film! Through a combination of lectures and film viewing, this class discusses the history, theory, aesthetics, and production behind cinematic arts. Students will discuss topics such as art direction, animation, cinematography, costumes and makeup, special effects, sound and music, and editing.

Create a story through movement and dance! During this course, students will work together to create a devised physical theatre piece. Using writing, images, physicality, music, and improv, students will explore the process of creating plays through ensemble work. Students enrolled are expected to be involved in the performance created for the class. 
*Fulfills 2.5 credits toward PE Requirement

Technical Theater 
This course introduces students to the technical aspects of theatre and design for theatre. Students enrolled in this class are expected to participate in stage crew. Through video, images, and text analysis, students will develop their skills in the “backstage” aspects of theatre. Topics include stage management, set design, costume design, marketing, lighting, and sound.
*To enroll in Technical Theatre for Honors, the student must apply for, and if selected participate in, the Fall Play or Spring Musical, AND submit a design to one of the METG design contests, in addition to heightened classroom and assignment expectations.
